# Call Forwarding

> Send your calls to another number: always, when you're busy, or when you don't answer

## Overview

Call forwarding sends calls that would ring your phone to somewhere else: another extension, or any outside number such as your mobile. There are three types:

| Type | When it forwards |
| - | - |
| **Always Forward** | Every call, immediately, and your phone doesn't ring at all |
| **Busy Forward** | Only when you're already on a call |
| **No Answer Forward** | Only after your phone has rung for a set time without being answered |

## Setting up call forwarding

**Button phones (T46 / T54)**

1. Press **Menu**, then go to **Features > Call Forward**.
2. Select the type you want: **Always Forward**, **Busy Forward**, or **No Answer Forward**.
3. Set it to **Enabled**.
4. Enter the destination number in the **Forward to** field: an extension or a full outside number.
5. For **No Answer Forward**, set the **After Ring Time** (how long your phone rings before forwarding).
6. Press the **Save** soft key.

A forwarding icon appears in the status bar while any forward is active. To turn it off, follow the same steps and set it to **Disabled**.

**Touch screens (T48 / T57)**

1. Tap **Menu**, then go to **Features > Call Forward**.
2. Tap the type you want: **Always Forward**, **Busy Forward**, or **No Answer Forward**.
3. Switch it **On**.
4. Enter the destination number in the **Forward to** field: an extension or a full outside number.
5. For **No Answer Forward**, set the **After Ring Time** (how long your phone rings before forwarding).
6. Tap **Save**.

A forwarding icon appears in the status bar while any forward is active. To turn it off, follow the same steps and switch it off.

> [!WARNING]
>
> **Always Forward** is easy to set and forget. Your phone won't ring at all while it's on, and it's a common cause of "my phone is broken" calls to support. If your phone has stopped ringing, check the status bar for the forwarding icon.

## Forwarding the main number instead

Forwarding your own phone only affects calls to **your extension**. If you need the **main business number** diverted (for example, sending all calls to a mobile after hours or during an emergency), that's done in the Pear Portal, not on your handset:

> **[Main Number Diversion](https://portaldocs.peartelco.app/call-flow/main-number-diversion)**
>
> Set a mobile number for the main line to divert to.

> **[Call Flow Control](https://portaldocs.peartelco.app/call-flow/call-flow-control.md)**
>
> Switch the whole system between Normal, Break, After Hours, and Divert modes.

## Frequently asked questions

**Can I forward to my mobile?**

Yes. Enter your full mobile number as the **Forward to** destination, exactly as you'd dial it.

**Who pays for the forwarded leg of the call?**

Calls forwarded to an outside number are placed by your phone system, so your organisation's normal call rates apply to that leg.

**Forwarding to my mobile works, but callers see a strange number.**

The caller ID shown on forwarded calls depends on your system settings. If you'd like it changed, [contact support](https://portaldocs.peartelco.app/phones/support.md).

**What's a sensible ring time before No Answer forwarding kicks in?**

Around 10–15 seconds (roughly 3–4 rings) suits most people: long enough to grab the phone, short enough that callers don't give up.
