# Contacts

> Browse the directory, search for people, and save the numbers you call often

## Overview

Your phone's **Directory** holds your contacts, so you can dial people by name instead of remembering numbers. Contacts saved on the phone also make your caller ID smarter. When a saved contact rings you, their **name** appears on screen instead of just a number.

## Browsing and calling contacts

**Button phones (T46 / T54)**

1. On the idle screen, press the **Directory** soft key.
2. Select **All Contacts** (or a group).
3. Scroll with the **↑ ↓** navigation keys to find the person.
4. Press the **Send** soft key to call them.

### Searching

1. In the Directory, press the **Search** soft key.
2. Type the name using the dial pad. Matches appear as you type.
3. Highlight the person and press **Send**.

**Touch screens (T48 / T57)**

1. On the idle screen, tap **Directory**.
2. Tap **All Contacts** (or a group).
3. Swipe to scroll and **tap a contact** to call them.

### Searching

1. In the Directory, tap **Search**.
2. Type the name. Matches appear as you type.
3. Tap the person to call them.

## Adding a contact

**Button phones (T46 / T54)**

1. Press the **Directory** soft key and select **All Contacts**.
2. Press the **Add** soft key.
3. Enter the **Name** and **Number** (you can add office, mobile, and other numbers).
4. Press the **Save** soft key.

### Adding from your call history

1. Open **History** and highlight the entry.
2. Press the **Option** soft key and choose **Add to Contacts**.
3. Add a name, then press **Save**.

**Touch screens (T48 / T57)**

1. Tap **Directory**, then **All Contacts**.
2. Tap **Add**.
3. Enter the **Name** and **Number** (you can add office, mobile, and other numbers).
4. Tap **Save**.

### Adding from your call history

1. Open **History** and tap the **info (i)** icon next to the entry.
2. Tap **Add** to save it as a contact.
3. Add a name, then tap **Save**.

> Just finished a call with someone you'll speak to again? Add them from **History** straight away. The number is already there, so you only need to type the name.

## Your colleagues

You don't need to add colleagues manually. You can see every extension and who's on the phone in real time from the Pear Portal:

## Frequently asked questions

**Are my contacts shared with my colleagues?**

Contacts you add on your handset are stored on **your phone** only. If your organisation would like a shared company directory on everyone's phones, [contact support](https://portaldocs.peartelco.app/phones/support.md) and we can set one up centrally.

**How many contacts can I store?**

Up to 1,000, more than enough for the numbers you actually call.

**Can I block a number?**

The best place to block unwanted callers is the Pear Portal. See [Number Blocking](https://portaldocs.peartelco.app/call-flow/number-blocking.md). Blocks made there apply to your whole system, not just your handset.
