# Voicemail

> Check your messages, record your greeting, and know when a message is waiting

## Overview

When you can't take a call, callers can leave you a voicemail. Your phone tells you the moment a message arrives: the light at the top of the phone **flashes red slowly**, and an **envelope icon** appears in the status bar.

## Checking your messages

**Button phones (T46 / T54)**

1. Press the **Message** key (the envelope icon).
2. The phone dials your voicemail box.
3. Enter your voicemail PIN if asked, then follow the voice prompts. Press **1** to listen to new messages.

**Touch screens (T48 / T57)**

1. Press the **Message** key (the envelope icon).
2. The phone dials your voicemail box.
3. Enter your voicemail PIN if asked, then follow the voice prompts. Press **1** to listen to new messages.

>
> You can also dial **\*97** from your phone to reach your own mailbox. If you're at a colleague's desk, dial **\*98**. It asks which mailbox you want, so you can check yours from any phone.

## Recording your greeting

Your greeting is what callers hear before leaving a message. To record or change it:

1. Press the **Message** key and sign in to your mailbox.
2. From the main menu, press **0** for mailbox options.
3. Choose the greeting you want to record: your **unavailable** greeting (used when you don't answer) or your **busy** greeting (used when you're on the phone).
4. Follow the prompts to record, review, and save it.

> Keep it short and helpful: your name, that you can't take the call, and when they can expect to hear back. "Hi, you've reached Sam at Pear Plumbing. Sorry I missed you. Leave your name and number and I'll call you back today."

## While you listen

These keys work while a message is playing:

| Press | To |

| **5** | Replay the message |
| **7** | Delete the message |
| **9** | Save the message |
| **\*** | Rewind |
| **#** | Skip forward |

## Frequently asked questions

**The message light is flashing but there are no new messages.**

An old message may be sitting in the mailbox unheard on another device, or a fax/notification may be waiting. Sign in with the **Message** key and check. If the light still won't clear, [contact support](https://portaldocs.peartelco.app/phones/support.md).

**I've forgotten my voicemail PIN.**

No problem. Just [contact support](https://portaldocs.peartelco.app/phones/support.md) and we'll reset it for you.

**When do callers get sent to my voicemail?**

When you don't answer in time, when you're on the phone (if call waiting is off), when you press **Reject**, or when [Do Not Disturb](https://portaldocs.peartelco.app/phones/features/do-not-disturb.md) is on. Your exact routing depends on your system setup.

**Can I get my voicemails somewhere other than the phone?**

Many Pear systems can email you a copy of each message. Ask us to switch voicemail-to-email on for you through [contact support](https://portaldocs.peartelco.app/phones/support.md).
