Overview

A headset keeps your hands free for typing and note-taking, and it’s much more comfortable than a handset wedged against your shoulder. All Pear Yealink phones support headsets. Which kinds depends on your model:

Using headset mode

However your headset connects, the Headset key controls whether calls use it:
  1. Press the Headset key. Its light glows green: headset mode is on.
  2. While it’s on, calls you make and answer go through the headset.
  3. Press the Headset key again to switch back to the handset and speaker.
Headset staying quiet when calls come in? Check the Headset key light is green. Headset mode switches off if the phone restarts or someone toggles it.

Connecting a wired or USB headset

  1. Plug the headset in. RJ9 headsets go in the headset port on the back of the phone (look for the headset icon), USB headsets go in the USB port.
  2. Press the Headset key to switch headset mode on.
  3. Make a test call and check both sides can hear clearly.

Pairing a Bluetooth headset (T54W and T57W)

  1. Press Menu, then go to Basic > Bluetooth.
  2. Set Bluetooth to On.
  3. Put your headset into pairing mode (check its manual; it’s usually holding the power or call button until a light flashes).
  4. Select Scan on the phone. Your headset appears in the list of found devices.
  5. Select the headset to pair and connect it.
  6. Press the Headset key to use it for calls.
On T46 and T48 phones, Bluetooth needs a small Yealink BT41 USB dongle in the back of the phone. After that, pairing works the same way through Menu > Basic > Bluetooth. If you’d like one, contact support.

Wireless DECT headsets

Office-grade wireless headsets (Jabra, EPOS, Plantronics and similar with their own charging base) connect too, and with the right adapter cable you can even answer calls from the headset itself while away from your desk. The adapter needed varies by phone model, so contact support and we’ll match the right one to your phone and headset.

Frequently asked questions

Which headset should I buy? For most desks, a USB headset is the simple answer: plug in and go, on every current model. If you want to walk and talk, go wireless (Bluetooth on T54W/T57W, or a DECT headset with adapter). We’re happy to recommend specific models. Just contact support. Can I keep my Bluetooth headset paired to my mobile at the same time? Most modern headsets pair to two devices at once. Check for “multipoint” in your headset’s manual. The phone doesn’t mind sharing. My Bluetooth headset keeps dropping out. Bluetooth range is roughly 10 metres with a clear path. If you roam further, a DECT wireless headset has much greater range.
