Overview

Call park is like hold, but shared. A parked call sits in a numbered parking spot on the phone system (not on your handset), so any phone in the office can pick it up. It’s the classic “call for anyone in sales, it’s on Park 1” move, and it’s perfect when you don’t know which colleague is free or where they are. Your phones have park keys beside the screen labelled Park 1, Park 2, and so on, one key per parking spot. The keys double as indicators, so everyone can see at a glance whether a spot is free or holding a call:

Parking a call

  1. During the call, look at your park keys and find a green (free) spot, for example Park 1.
  2. Press that park key.
  3. The call is parked and Park 1 turns solid red on every phone in the office.
  4. Let your colleagues know: “Call on Park 1.”

Green means the spot is free. When a call is parked there, the key turns red: here Park 2 has a call waiting

Picking up a parked call

From any phone in the office:
  1. Look for the park key that’s red. That’s where the call is waiting.
  2. Press (or tap) it.
  3. You’re connected to the caller.
You can also retrieve a parked call by dialling its spot number: 71 for Park 1, 72 for Park 2, and so on. Handy from a phone that doesn’t have park keys, like a cordless handset.
If nobody collects a parked call within a few minutes, it rings back to the phone that parked it, so callers are never stranded.

No park keys on your phone?

You can still park using the system codes:
  1. During the call, press (or tap) Transfer.
  2. Dial *70 and press Send.
  3. Listen: the system announces the parking spot number (71 is Park 1, 72 is Park 2, and so on).
  4. Hang up and let your colleagues know which spot.
To collect, dial the spot number from any phone. And if you’d like park keys added to your phone, contact support. It’s a quick change.

Frequently asked questions

What’s the difference between parking and transferring? A transfer sends the call to one specific person. A parked call waits in a shared spot for whoever picks it up. How do I tell colleagues which spot the call is on? However suits your office: call out, message them, or use an Announcement from the Pear Portal. The spot name is right on the key you pressed, so “it’s on Park 2” is all anyone needs. All my park keys are red and I have another call to park. All spots are in use. Either put the call on hold until a spot frees up, or transfer it directly to someone. If your office regularly runs out of spots, contact support and we can add more. I parked a call and my phone started ringing a few minutes later. That’s the parked call ringing back to you because nobody picked it up. Answer it and the caller is back with you.
